Aerial photo of Walcheren after the Inundation. Walcheren was very important as a strategic point for the Allied and for the Germans because it was a way through to go to the port of Antwerp. The allied forces bombed the dykes by Walcheren in order to set it under water. In 1944 the Battle of the Scheldt found its place here.

Luchtfoto van Walcheren na de Inudatie. Walcheren was een belangrijk strategisch punt voor de geallieerden en voor de Duitsers door de connectie met de haven van Antwerpen. Eind 1944 bombardeerden de geallieerde luchtmacht de dijken zodat Walcheren onder water kwam te staan. In November 1944 vond de Slag om de Schelde hier plaats.
