Original Dutch Aviation Grouping – Personal Documents, Anthony Fokker Family (1911–1947)

An extremely rare set of personal photographs and documents from the private estate of Dutch aviation pioneer Anthony Fokker. The collection consists largely of pictures taken by him or of him, spanning the period from 1911 until his death in 1939. After his passing, these documents were kept by his nephew Antonij Nijland and later passed on to collectors.

The set includes two autographed picture postcards from Haarlem, as well as a postcard of a Fokker 39 airplane with a handwritten message from him to the Palthe family.

The photographs also depict his wives and companions, including Elizabeth (Tetta) von Morgen, Violet Fokker, and a girlfriend shown aboard his ship (connected to the Palthe family).

Several documents relate to his death, including a transcription of the funeral service held in New York in 1939 and a card from the Fokker company for the interment of his ashes in the Netherlands, accompanied by a photograph of his mother and family during the ceremony.

In 1912, Fokker moved from Haarlem to Berlin to establish an aircraft manufacturing company. During the First World War, his company produced around 4,000 aircraft, including the plane of Manfred von Richthofen, the Red Baron, which brought him worldwide (in)fame. In 1922, he moved to the United States, where he co-founded an American Fokker company with General Motors. He passed away in 1939 after surgery on his sinuses.

Everything is carefully documented in photographs to provide a clear impression of this remarkable collection. As mentioned, these materials were preserved by Antonij Nijland, a nephew of Anthony Fokker on his mother’s side, who exhibited them at a stamp fair in 1947.

Signatures of Fokker are exceedingly rare, particularly when originating from his personal estate. This is a unique, museum-quality set, highly desirable for aviation collectors.

 

Originele Nederlandse Luchtvaart Groep – Persoonlijke nalatenschap Anthony Fokker & Familie (1911–1947)

Zeer zeldzame set met persoonlijke foto’s en documenten uit de privé-nalatenschap van de Nederlandse luchtvaartpionier Anthony Fokker. De collectie bestaat grotendeels uit door hem gemaakte of van hem genomen foto’s uit de periode 1911 tot aan zijn overlijden in 1939. Na zijn dood werden deze documenten bewaard door zijn neef Antonij Nijland en later doorgegeven aan verzamelaars.

De set bevat onder meer twee door Fokker gesigneerde fotokaarten uit Haarlem, evenals een ansichtkaart van een Fokker 39-vliegtuig met een door hem geschreven boodschap aan de familie Palthe.

Op de foto’s zijn ook zijn echtgenotes en vriendinnen te zien, waaronder Elizabeth (Tetta) von Morgen, Violet Fokker, en een vriendin afgebeeld op zijn schip (familie van Palthe).

Enkele documenten zijn gerelateerd aan zijn overlijden: een transcriptie van de rouwdienst in New York in 1939 en een kaart van de Fokker-fabriek voor de bijzetting van zijn as in Nederland, met daarbij een foto van zijn moeder en familie tijdens de ceremonie.

In 1912 verhuisde Fokker van Haarlem naar Berlijn om er een vliegtuigfabriek te starten. Tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog produceerde zijn bedrijf circa 4.000 vliegtuigen, waaronder dat van Manfred von Richthofen, de Rode Baron, wat hem wereldwijd (in)faam bezorgde. In 1922 verhuisde hij naar de Verenigde Staten, waar hij samen met General Motors een Amerikaanse Fokker-onderneming oprichtte. Hij overleed in 1939 na een operatie aan zijn bijholtes.

Alles is uitvoerig vastgelegd op foto’s, zodat een goed beeld ontstaat van deze bijzondere collectie. Zoals vermeld werd dit materiaal bewaard door Antonij Nijland, neef van Anthony Fokker langs moederszijde, die het in 1947 tentoonstelde op een postzegelbeurs.

Handtekeningen van Fokker zijn uiterst zeldzaam, zeker afkomstig uit zijn persoonlijke nalatenschap. Dit betreft een unieke en museale set voor iedere luchtvaartverzamelaar.
